Minutes of the Workshop held in Ranchi from 23rd July to 24th July 2011
The two day workshop on languages of Jharkhand was held on 23rd and 24th July 2011 at Ranchi. Around 55 people from academic community have participated along with activists and organizers of Ramnika Foundation and All India Tribal Literary Forum. This workshop was organized as part of snapshot survey being carried out by Bhasha Research and Publication Centre, Baroda for Peoples Survey of India. Mr. G. N. Devy, the Coordinator of Peoples Survey of India and Director of Bhasha Research and Publication Centre participated in the two day workshop.
The workshop was opened
with the introductory remarks made by Ramnika Gupta. She spoke at length about
the need to protect the endangered languages of Jharkhand. She criticized the
government for not taking enough steps to protect the indigenous languages of
masses. She appealed to the participant to work hard to complete the ongoing
survey which would compel the government to protect the languages and introduce
the same in state schedule. Rose Kerkatta, Zonal Head of AITLF, expressed
happiness for organizing the workshop to protect the languages of the
region. She said, the workshop is being
organized for the greater unity among the languages of state and provide
education to the children in their mother tongue. Such steps would help the
development of languages as well as the society as a whole.
Mr. G. N. Devy in his
opening remarks expressed his gratitude to the participants and organizers of
workshop and for their contribution in the people’s survey of India campaign.
Around 2000 activists and eminent linguistic luminaries are working to complete
the said survey in all over India, he said. The survey in southern, Eastern and
western states are near to complete which includes Jharkhand also. The survey
in Bihar, UP, Haryana etc. would be taken at second stage. He further added
that the 41 volume would be published which includes 18 Volume in English, 14
volume in Hindi and 9 volume in regional languages after the completion of
survey. These volumes would be released and dedicated to the country at Ajmer
in the year of 2016. The role of participants and organizers for this survey in
Jharkhand is very important as to complete the survey in given time.
The paper on 13
languages of Jharkhand was placed by the eminent educationists, professors and
academicians of the region in the workshop. AS healthy and fruitfullful
discussion was taken place amonth participants and organizers to underline the
various aspects of concern languages. The languages includes; Khortha, Khadiya, Panchparganiya,
Santali, Mundari, Nagpuri, Ho, Kurmali, Kudux, Asuri, gondi, Bhumij, and
Birhor. The entries of Angika and Pahadiya would be made in the month of August
along with new identified languages i.e. Khorva, Brijiya Chero, Kherwari,
Agariya and sabar. It was also decided in the workshop that the other version
of different languages should also be included in the existing papers like
Karmali as part of Asuri and Kudux should includes Bedga and Kisani in its
ambit. At the end of the August total entry of 21 languages from the region
would be made and volume of mentioned languages would be published in the month
of November.
Important Decisions
Taken by the Workshop is as follows:
1.
All the members of the education
committee should work jointly to enhance the paper and cover all the aspects on
the basis of guideline provided by Mr. G. N. Devy.
2.
That the names of all the members of
language committee who have contributed individually or collectively would be
included in the volume with their personal comments on Survey.
3.
The complete entry of all the languages
should reach to Bhasha or Ramnika Foundation by the 20th of August
2011.
4.
A regular meeting of Bhasha Committee
should take place to review the process of completion of papers in respective
languages and same should be reported to Mr. Mahesh Kumar, Director, Ramnika Foundation.

After
the completion of the above process, a big event named BHASHA JANMAHOTSAVA will
be organized in the month of November at Ranchi in which the prominent people
from all walks of life and masses from different languages will participate in
the event. A colorful and cultural procession of masses consisting of
traditional musicals and dance will be organized on 13th November in
which thousands of people will participate from different part of state.
For
the preparation of BHASHA JANMAHOTSAVA, a reception Committee is formed under
the leadership of Shri G. N. Devy, Director, Bhasha Research Centre, Shri
Ramdayal Munda, President AITLF, Smt. Ramnika Gupta, President Ramnika
